Many children cannot learn to read in a standard classroom; they need one-on-one tutoring. They need to hear, see, touch, write and say the letters and sounds of the alphabet. Since 2003, Windy Row has given children from kindergarten to grade 10 the gift of reading.
At Windy Row, each child works with a personal tutor during the school year for one hour, two times a week. Our specially trained tutors create an individual program for each child, using the multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham. We also tutor in math using other nationally known programs and teach executive functioning strategies. Every year our summer program helps children strengthen and build upon their progress.
Most children gain one year of reading skill for each year of tutoring—sometimes they gain two or even three years. Once they learn how to read, they keep their skills forever.
Windy Row is a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in West Peterborough, New Hampshire. We have a sliding scale for services based on income, with financial aid available. We serve the Monadnock Region, including the Contoocook Valley (Conval), Harrisville, Jaffrey-Rindge Coop, Keene, Lyndeborough, Marlborough and Masenic school districts.
We strive to accept every child who needs our help, regardless of ability to pay. For more details, see our brochure and contact us by phone or info [at] windyrow.org (email).
